How To Install Security Camera Through Soffit
- #1
Has anyone done this? I mounted my first Security Camera on my front door on the soffit and used some 2x4 betwixt the joists to spiral to (got at least 1 screw in and then it'south pretty secure).
But i've as well seen video's where people just mount them to the vinyl/aluminum soffit (Only screwing them in) and that's information technology? I mean I judge the camera'due south aren't very heavy then I see no reason why they would fall.
I would identify a slice of aluminum on the back porch camera but it's actually nether a deck roof and then it's not exactly a soffit but more than like a vinyl roof console.
Can I just screw information technology in and that'due south it? I don't run into why information technology would autumn? Maybe I can merely some toggle bolts?
Thanks!

Speaking on behalf of countless DIY'ers who have washed just that, while its not advised, yeah it'll probably work just fine

I accept a perforated vinyl soffit w/ 3' overhang. I take mounted Dahua Turret cams directly to the vinyl using oversized woods screws. Been there over 2 years w/ eighty+mph hurricane winds. Ya..... it volition work. Too have the four LED external IR illuminators mounted straight to vinyl. No problems. Similar the BIgfish said, it may not exist advised.

A strip of aluminum long enough to be tucked into the business firm and facia flanges will work, too. Works for cameras and IR illuminators.
Advantage beingness no holes in the soffet. Disadvantage existence that you demand to remove a piece of soffet. That can exist time consuming, only non having holes in the soffet is worth it, at to the lowest degree to me.

I needed to put up a cam quick-like and screwed the mounting box directly to aluminum soffit with #14 sheet metal screws. The aluminum is pretty thin so I'd await the cam could be pulled off without huge effort. Just, I recall it's non going anywhere nether normal weather condition. Information technology'll get reinforced, along with calculation more cam locations, when the weather is more conducive to working outside.

I did it years agone, no problems for over 3 years.

Good to know. In that location are some places where I don't have super good access to so i've had to mountain my 3 photographic camera's to the Vinyl Soffit...merely I haven't seen whatever "shake" under whatever conditions. Although at some signal i'll probably slip a piece of plywood or something in between and re-drill them to go into the wood...but I just don't have those types of tools currently right now.

I did want to try that, but unfortunately I don't take the proper tools to cut aluminum.

I'm looking at installing some domes soon but wanted some input on how best to securely install them under the eaves/soffit given what I have;
Nothing is removable at all & requires access either via the ceiling or roof tiles, both of which are a hurting.
I could attach them to the brick wall but I'd much prefer under the eaves/soffit.
Looking for minimal concrete impact/damage.
EDIT: Would I demand any sort of junction box if done this way.

Yeah the eaves are like a flimsy thin wooden board. I could punch a hole in information technology with my fist.
And so would its junction box be fastened to the outside or inside & would it be good thought to have something solid to attach it to, as I doubtable either way by not having something solid attached to it information technology'd be easy to remove/move?

Because of how flimsy wood is, really need something to distribute the load as much as possible. Wood is maybe merely 6mm thick & leightweight.
